The Technology
RNP granules are naturally occurring gel-like dense RNA-protein complexes. Here we devised a method to engineered synthetic RNP granules de novo which can be used for a variety of applications. The chief utility of the method is to place a user-defined set of proteins in close proximity for a variety of potential applications which can range from designer viral-decoy particles for prophylactic treatment to enzyme-based nano-factories for in vitro metabolic engineering applications. In the example below, we demonstrate the functionality of the SNRP granules by showing that he SARS-nCoV-2 v-particles bind selectively and with high-affinity our virus decoy granules which display many hACE2 proteins. Given the stability of the synthetic RNP granules, these particles can be embedded in a variety of formulations which can then be applied to skin or within personal protection equipment to maximize protection from virus infection.
