Short Bio

Yoav Sterman is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning at the Technion.
Yoav is an expert in Additive Manufacturing and Computational Design.
He graduated from the Department of Industrial Design at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. He obtained his master’s degree from MIT Media Lab, where he was part of the Mediated Matter research group. After graduating, Yoav joined Nike as a digital innovator at Nike’s global headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. At Nike, Yoav developed Nike FlyPrint technology, the first 3D-printed textile for performance footwear, which was first incorporated in the VaporFly Elite Marathon shoe.
In 2017, Yoav returned to Israel to establish the digital R&D department at Delta Galil industry and, in parallel, taught courses in Architecture and Town Planning at the Technion. In 2020, Yoav joined Technion as a full-time faculty member and started the CodedMatter research lab, a multidisciplinary design and research lab. Yoav’s research focuses on developing digital design tools to enable the customization and personalization of medical equipment, personal protection equipment, and active gear products. In addition, his research focuses on developing new sustainable fabrication technologies based on Additive manufacturing.
