Short Bio

Dr. Yosi Shamay is a faculty member at Biomedical Engineering Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. He has completed his PhD from Ben Gurion University in Chemistry and Clinical Pharmacology which gave him a comprehensive background in materials and medicinal chemistry, biomedical engineering and cancer research. In his postdoctoral research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) he has extended his interests to machine learning, chemiformatics and personalized therapy. Dr. Yosi Shamay is now in a unique position to develop new technologies to address multiple biomedical problems in the field of cancer medicine.

The goals of Dr. Yosi Shamay’s laboratory are to develop new technologies in the emerging field of nanoinformatics (combining nanomedicine with information science) for therapeutic applications together with novel tools for accelerated discovery in that space and in biomedicine in general.

Dr. Yosi Shamay has recently developed a software for Automated Literature Meta Analysis (ALMA) which maps the known hypothesis space in biomedicine and is used for accelerated discovery. In addition, Shamay’s lab has developed a new nanoparticle based technology platform which specifically targets the tumors in order to selectively deliver almost any class of drug past the endothelium to the tumor microenvironment.
