Short Bio

Prof. Shpitalni received his B.Sc. in 1972, his M.Sc. in 1975 and his D.Sc. in 1980 from the Technion. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technion in 1983 and in 1983 founded the Laboratory for CAD and Lifecycle Engineering (formerly, Laboratory for Computer Graphics and CAD), which he continues to proudly lead today. Prof. Shpitalni is the holder of the Georg Schlesinger Chair of Manufacturing Systems and also the head of the Minerva Schlesinger Laboratory for Automated Assembly. Prof. Shpitalni’s research interests are primarily in the fields of computer CAD/CAM and product development and the application of geometrical modeling to manufacturing and assembly. Recently he has begun concentrating his efforts on knowledge management related to the entire product lifecycle.
