The Technology

Honey is a sweet, viscous food substance made by bees. Bees produce honey from floral nectar by regurgitation, enzymatic activity, and water evaporation. The process of honey production is complicated and involves various proteins secreted by the bees. The new technology enables fine-tuned expression and secretion of the specific “Honey circuit” in Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) organisms. Thus mimicking the bee stomach.

Advantages

  • Global demand for a clean residue free honey
  • Aligned with the rising demand for eco-friendly/vegan products
  • Enable product variability and flexibility per product specifications

Applications and Opportunities

  • Custom flavor/health honey
  • Honey syrup
  • Medical grade honey
  • Cosmetics
