The Technology

Big-Data revolution increases the demand for network connectivity, high data rates, ultra-low latencies, and resource-intensive computations that require efficient utilization of all possible resources. To meet this need there is a huge need for scalable adaptive coding-based solutions for advanced communication and information systems (e.g., heterogeneous networks and distributed data centers) that can significantly help bridge the trade-off between high data and computation rates and low in-order delivery delay. In addition to reliability and computational complexity.
Our technology for design and analyze such tools consists of combining adaptive and causal coding and allocation solutions for heterogeneous communication and computation systems that can track the network condition, and adaptively adjust the recovery (retransmission) rates a priori and posteriori over all the available resources in the network.

Advantages

  • Adaptable to changing quality of the communication links
  • Not constrained by the least reliable communication link
  • Optimally using bandwidth for low latency
  • Explored in very recent work on several communication systems and protocols (e.g., QUIC, TCP, UDP, Wi-Fi, heterogeneous networks, distributed computation, mmWave communications and more).

Applications and Opportunities

  • The technology can be applied to various platforms like communication networks, data centers, information processing, autonomous vehicles etc.
