The Technology

The number of women needing an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure worldwide is constantly increasing and has doubled over the past 15 years. Injection of a single sperm into an egg, by means of micromanipulation, is a technology that is used in 50- 70% of cases to achieve fertilization. The selected seed has a significant impact on the chance of producing a viable embryo. The evaluation of the quality of the sperm in the conventional methods is based on the motility and morphological parameters of the sperm after staining with low magnification. The more sophisticated methods in which the sperm is graded in real-time require high magnification is a laborious task that requires knowledge and experience, and highly trained personnel. The developed technology is a high magnification artificial intelligence-based system that enables grading the sperm according to the Kasuto-Barak scale and the derivation of new biomarkers that contribute to the rating of the sperm.
