The Technology

The fragmented nature of the construction industry necessitates close collaboration among design disciplines and requires extensive data exchange. Despite advances in Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, teams still rely on a sequential file-based process for design exchange, resulting in issues of data loss, cumbersome coordination, and multiple design iterations.
To address these challenges, we have developed a new technology and process based on graphs stored in the cloud, which we call ‘Cloud BIM’ (CBIM). The core technology links building information objects in the cloud, in discipline sub-graph models, with a meta-graph whose nodes link the building objects intelligently, facilitating closely coordinated collaboration and smart engineering analysis applications.
CBIM enables users to identify and propagate modifications across affected disciplines through the cloud server. Moreover, design conflicts will be identified and resolved through intelligent routines running on the meta-graph.

Advantages

  • Online parallel process for design exchange
  • Easy coordination
  • Decrease in the number and duration of design iterations
  • Automated (AI based) identification and resolution of design conflicts
  • Automated propagation of modifications across affected disciplines

Applications and Opportunities

  • Current file-based cloud collaboration for design is an estimated $3.0 to $3.75 billion market
  • Our CBIM renders the current file-based tools obsolete, thus revolutionizing the entire BIM software industry.
