The Technology

Tower cranes are abundant type of crane used in building high buildings. It is operated electrically and has very well defined geometry – joints, and other degrees of freedom. It is usually used for long periods of times at the same location and the only changes are in its’ height. It was found that cranes are bottle neck in the construction site and people and equipment are always waiting for its’ operation. An add-on systems was developed and allows half-automatic operation of abundant navigation routes in safe, fast and efficient way. The movement will be smooth and avoid wiggling. the crane operator can “teach” the crane the safe repeating routes and will take control for lifting and locating load. The system would still require full awareness from the crane operator but reduces the total operation time of the crane by 25%.

Advantages

  • Increases efficiency of tower crane by 25% and reducing time consuming operations
  • Safe and smooth routes

Applications and Opportunities

  • Upgrading tower cranes
