Graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad del Litoral (Argentina) in 1975. Attained a PhD degree in 1986 in biotechnology at the Department of Biotechnology of Tel Aviv University (Israel) and was a Postdoc in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan State University, East Lansing (USA) from 1988-1990. In 1990 he joined the Migal Research Institute/Tel Hai Academic College (Upper Galilee, Israel) as Staff Scientist in Environmental Biotechnology and became a Senior Scientist in1992 and Associate Professor in 1998. In 2000 joined the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Technion, Haifa (Israel) and became a Professor in 2009. In 2006-2007 was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California at Davis (USA) and in 2016 a Visiting Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Barcelona (Spain).
Authored/co-authored above130 peer-reviewed research papers, review papers and books chapters and has 3 patents. Supervision of 44 graduate students (11 PhD and 33 MSc). Awarded the Shilo Prize in Environmental Microbiology by the Israeli Society for Microbiology in 2003. Member/head in different scientific and public boards, steering committees, review panels and professional societies and conferences organization; editorial member of Bioresource Technology (Elsevier).
