The Technology

The present technology provides a method for generating a fiber from a globular protein, such as albumin, by electrospinning. Thus, albumin fibers and fabrics may be produced and used for wound dressing or for in/ex vivo tissue generation.

Advantages

  • Albumin may serve as the building materials for scaffolds and bandages
  • Albumin is a stronger biological glue relative to fibrin, once activated

Applications and Opportunities

  • Biological glue
  • Scaffold for tissue regeneration
  • Drug delivery carrier
