The Technology

Recently, a causal link between activation of the reward system and an immune function was reported in mice. This discovery holds great potential for improving personal health management, rationalizing the use of reward-related brain activation to enhance immune function. The research team showed that the mesolimbic network (including the reward system) can be activated by neurofeedback and potentially boost immunity.

Advantages

  • Endogenous activation of the immune system
  • Reduced side-effects (relative to existing therapies targeting the immune response)

Applications and Opportunities

  • Targeted neurofeedback to control the immune response in a range of immune-related dysfunction or disorders
  • Neuromodulation
